On behalf of the San Diego Union-Tribune, the Classroom of the Future Foundation’s (CFF) longtime partner and supporter, you are invited to attend a FREE California Gubernatorial Candidates Forum that is being hosted by the California Council for the Social Studies this Sunday, March 25th at the Town & Country Resort and Hotel from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

We feel the forum will be of great interest to our CFF constituents as the candidates will be asked questions around the topic of education.

2018 California Gubernatorial Candidates’ Forum Comes to San Diego

San Diego, CA. (March 12, 2018) – As part of the 2018 California Council for the Social Studies (CCSS) Annual Conference, CCSS is partnering with The San Diego Union-Tribune and ABC 10News to host the 2018 California Gubernatorial Forum on Sunday, March 25 at 10:30 a.m. located at the Town and Country Resort and Conference Center, 500 Hotel Circle North, San Diego.

The California Gubernatorial Forum is FREE to the public (less hotel parking – note that the San Diego Trolley is next door at Fashion Valley with short walking distance).

It will feature leading gubernatorial candidates who will be competing for the seat of Governor of California. Each candidate will discuss their platforms and positions to an estimated crowd of 1100 attendees on one of the three most important issues to the majority of Californians – education. The forum will focus on social studies education and civic learning in particular, along with other important issues regarding the future of California.

The forum gives attendees the opportunity to meet and interface with top candidates and have a front row seat to our democratic process.

Matthew T. Hall, Editorial and Opinion Director of The San Diego Union-Tribune, will moderate the forum.  Candidates will field questions from a panel of journalists that includes:  Chris Reed, Deputy Editorial and Opinion Editor, and Michael Smolens, Columnist, from The San Diego Union-Tribune, and ABC 10News Anchor, Lindsey Peña.

Confirmed candidates in attendance include:

  • Travis Allen (Republican) Member, California State Assembly
  • John Cox (Republican) Business Executive
  • Delaine Eastin (Democrat) Former State Superintendent of Public Instruction
  • Antonio Villaraigosa (Democrat) Former Mayor, City of Los Angeles

ABC 10News will be live streaming the Forum, which will also streamed by ABC affiliates in Los Angeles, San Francisco and Fresno.

In addition, to The San Diego Union-Tribune and ABC 10News, other noteworthy forum co-sponsors include: Pearson Learning Services, National Geographic/Cengage, McGraw-Hill Education, the University of San Diego School of Law, c3 Communications, Inc., and the Campaign for the Civic Mission of Schools.
