2018 IMPACT AWARD SPONSORED BY ROBO3D AND BALFOUR BEATTY CONSTRUCTION

IMPACT AWARD WINNER:

“Design and Modeling” Program, Calavera Hills Middle School, Carlsbad USD

The Classroom of the Future Foundation’s (CFF) Impact Award is the best-of-show award given to the one program that best embodies all three CFF goals – to inspire, innovate and achieve. This highly innovative program gets kids excited about learning, uses creative innovations to enhance learning, and improves student learning outcomes.

The Design & Modeling Program at Calavera Hills Middle School in Carlsbad Unified School District provides students with the opportunity to design real solutions for people in the real world. This makerspace program leverages community partners, technology, and a flexible classroom environment to create a student-centered course which challenges students to make the world a better place. For example, students are designing prosthetics for children and distributing them around the world!

In recognition of the award, Robo3D will be providing four top-of-the-line RoboC2 and RoboR2 3D printers ($10,000 value) to Calavera Hills Middle School so that they can build out their innovative makerspace lab and allow more students to engage in design-thinking and the production of prosthetic devices for other children around the world.

The other co-sponsor for this award, Balfour Beatty Construction will be generously donating a financial grant of $5,000 to Calavera Hills Middle School to help scale up the program and provide much-needed supplies for the makerspace.

ABOUT THE COMPANIES SPONSORING THIS AWARD

Robo3D is a home-grown education story that is based in San Diego. It all started over 4 years ago when Coby Kabili (Co-Founder) was developing a cost-effective, inexpensive 3D printed prosthetic leg for a project at San Diego State University. This led to their design of their first 3D printer – one of the only plug-and-play, affordable, and accessible desktop 3D printers at the time. With an entire ecosystem around 3D printing today including new smart machines, materials, kits, and curriculum, Robo has now developed into a global brand focused on bringing 3D printing into education. Robo is actively involved in supporting educators and STEM/STEAM initiatives across the country, but are actively focused on our hometown of San Diego, CA.

Balfour Beatty Construction is an industry-leading provider in the US of general contracting, at-risk construction management and design-build services for public and private sector clients across the nation. Performing heavy civil and vertical construction, our teams build the unique structures and infrastructure that play an important role in how people live, work, learn and play in our communities. Ranked by Engineering News Record (ENR) California as the 3rd largest K-12 builder, Balfour Beatty Construction has been entrusted to build award-winning learning environments for school districts for the past 20 years.

SPECIAL MESSAGE FROM ROBO3D TO INNOVATION IN EDUCATION AWARD ATTENDEES

On behalf of Robo, we salute all of the 2018 award winners as innovators and leaders in San Diego education!

We are excited about our partnership with Classroom of the Future Foundation and cannot wait to celebrate the 15th Anniversary Innovation in Education Awards on May 23rd.

At the night of the event, Robo will be providing a full demonstration on 3D printing, how it will help to scale up the program at Calavera Hills Middle School, and how you can incorporate it into your own classroom. The Robo team is dedicated to supporting the efforts of all educators throughout the County beyond the event. Robo would welcome the opportunity to provide you with a focused overview on how the company has integrated into multiple classroom settings with our NGSS/Common Core Curriculum. Best of all, Robo would like to provide you with some sample prints so you are able to imagine what you can create in your classroom. Just send an email to Steve Weart at steve@robo3d.com and he will get the 3D education packet over to you or whoever the appropriate person is within your organization.

Robo hopes to meet with you personally at the event and congratulate our award winners for their efforts and successes in education. Thank you!

Best,

Robo3D Team
